Rochester, N.Y. - Becca Berry (Lowville, N.Y.) scored 8:41 into the first half leading the Ithaca women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout victory at Rochester Institute of Technology in Empire 8 action Saturday afternoon.
The Bombers registered their third consecutive victory against RIT and kept a seven-game unbeaten streak alive dating back to 1996 (the last RIT win was 2-1 on Sept. 16, 1995). Ithaca shutout the Tigers 5-0 in 2001 and 2-1 in overtime in 2000, while RIT came close to victory with a 0-0 tie in 1999.
The Bombers lived up to their namesake blasting18 shots at RIT goalkeeper Carrie Yehle (Clifton Park, N.Y.). On Ithaca's first goal , Berry cranked a point-blank shot which Yehle saved, but Berry was there to hit in her own rebound.
The Tigers mounted a strong effort in the final 15 minutes of the first half recording three of their five shots including two big chances on goal that Ithaca goalkeeper Liz Bishop (Newton, Conn.) thwarted.
Katherine Pretrocci (Rockville, Md.) sealed the victory in the 63rd minute with a breakaway goal, slipping the ball past Yehle low on the right side. Yehle played extremely well notching nine saves, but fell victim to a strong Ithaca offense.
RIT looks to bounce back with a win at Elmira on October 3rd.
