Rochester, N.Y. -- The Rochester Institute of Technology's men's soccer team improved its record to 4-4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Empire 8 with a 3-0 shutout of Alfred University Saturday afternoon.
The game was dominated by the Tigers with shots being held 20-3 in favor of RIT.
Starting the scoring for RIT was Michael Lawson who shot to the lower right corner of the net off a cross from Abe Zwirn at 10:51 into the game. When a foul was called on an Alfred defenseman in the box, senior forward Rick Anthony set up for a penalty kick and scored the easy goal at 17:25.
The Tigers had another great scoring opportunity at 38:26 in the second half, when Jeff Prescott dribbed through the Alfred midfielders, passed to Trae Lower, who crossed to Rick Anthony. Anthony shot around a defenseman but the ball hit the far right post and bounced out.
Two minutes later, RIT wrapped up its scoring when Trae Lower scored off a feed from Vitor Santos.
Alfred had a great chance to score at 6:22 in the second half when a foul was called on RIT's J.J. Wagner in the box. Alfred's Karl Gnann took the penalty kick, however RIT goaltender Brian Lenzo made the remarkable save, and recorded his second shutout of the season.
The Tigers will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 5 as they travel to Ithaca College to play in another Empire 8 game, and battle for first place in the conference standings.
