ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The No. 15 University of Rochester women's soccer team halted the Rochester Institute of Technology's five-game winning streak with a 2-0 shutout Tuesday evening at Fauver Stadium.
RIT (6-2-0) goalkeeper Carrie Yehle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and the RIT defenders did all they could to keep the Tigers in the contest. The Tigers defense kept the U of R's shots in the long-distance range and Yehle recorded nine first-half saves to keep U of R off the scoreboard.
The Yellowjackets (7-0-0) didn't score until the 78th minute and it came on a penalty kick by Alison Collins. The penalty kick came on a questionable call when Collins fell one yard into the box untouched by an RIT defender. Three minutes later Kristin Kelly gave U of R a 2-0 lead from Karen Forsythe on a header off the corner kick.
"Our team played great tonight and worked very hard throughout the entire game," RIT head coach Tom Natalie said. "They are a great team and we don't want to take anything away from them, but we were without several of our key players with injuries."
The Yellowjackets pounded 28 shots at goal, while the RIT managed just two shots in the game. Yehle finished with 17 saves on the night.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 28 when they host Ithaca at noon.
