Rochester, N.Y. - Rick Anthony (Baldwinsville/Baker) and Trae Lower Gettysburg, Pa./Biglerville) each scored a pair of goals as the Rochester Institute of Technology men's soccer team advanced to the RIT Invitational tournament championship with a convincing 6-2 win against Alvernia (Pa.) Friday afternoon.

Anthony, who led the Empire 8 conference in scoring in 2001 with 22 points, wasted little time getting on the board with his first goal at 14:09 from Brian Aderer (Acton, Mass/Acton Boxborough). Then nine minutes later Lower settled a rebounded shot from JJ Wagner (Holley, N.Y./Holley) for his first of the year.

The Tigers came out of the half with a 2-0 advantage and Anthony built on that advantage with his second of the game just 36 seconds into the second half from Aderer again.

Alvernia's Tim Dwyer (Runnemede, N.J./Triton Regional) tried to keep the Crusaders in the game with a pair of goals, but RIT just added to their lead with markers from Frank Cutaiar (Churchville, N.Y./McQuaid) and freshman Nuno Monteiro (Villa Nova De Gaia, Portugal).

Brian Lenzo (Greece, N.Y./Greece Athena) picked up the victory for the Tigers with 63:07 in the pipes with a save and held the Crusaders scoreless. Nate Andrews (Greece, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) relieved Lenzo allowing two goals and making four saves before leaving with an injury suffered when Alvernia scored their second goal. Freshman Matt Klosner (Lowville, N.Y./Lowville Academy) finished the game with 5:37 of action.

The Tigers will face Muhlenberg (Pa.) at 5:30 p.m. for the championship game. The Mules defeated Macalaster (Minn.) 1-0 in the first game of the day when Evan Smallwood scored on a penalty-kick at 76:45.

Macalaster's Stuart Peacock was whistled for a handball when he stopped a shot attempt off a corner-kick to setup the PK. Peacock got a red card as it was his second yellow of the game.

Muhlenberg outplayed Macalaster for most of the game witha 14-7 shot advantage including 7-1 in shots on goal. Pat Ryan had a very solid chance in the first half at 25:50 when his shot was saved by Michael Madigan over the cross bar. Then Adam Milberg was stopped by Madigan who tipped it over the bar once again in the 66th minute.

Macalaster will face Alvernia at 3 p.m. in the consolation game.
