RIT Women's Soccer Falls in NYSWCAA Championship to RPI, 5-1

TROY, N.Y. -- New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament Most Valuable Player Katie Fredlund scored two goals to lead Rensselaer women's soccer to a 5-1 win over Rochester Institute of Technology in the Championship Game Sunday afternoon.

Margaret Tomeo gave RPI a 1-0 lead at 11:55 of the first half from Anne Dramas. However, just over seven minutes later RIT's Nicole Paga (Pittsburgh, PA/Brashear) scored the equalizer at 19:10 as she dribbled in on her own through the RPI defense.

Senior Ann Larsen scored her first of two goals on the afternoon at 33:54 from Susan Gonyea to give RPI a 2-1 advantage at halftime.

The second half was all Rensselaer (12-4-1) outshooting RIT 14-1 and adding to its lead with Larsen's second of the game at 55:47 and a pair of markers from Fredlund at 48:18 and 78:26.

The Tigers (11-8-0) will await their chances of earning a bid to the Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament which should be announced Monday morning.
