ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Rochester Institute of Technology women's soccer team came out victorious Thursday afternoon at Elmira College with a 2-1 win in Empire 8 action improving to 7-3 overall record and 2-1 in the E8.
The soggy field and poor weather did not keep the Tigers out of this fight. Despite an early goal by Elmira's Jennifer Tuttle (Rome, N.Y.), RIT continued to give the Soaring Eagles a run for their money.
Still in the first half, Emily Wilson (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) (Ijamsville, MD) scored the equalizer with a great high shot that lofted over Elmira's Brittney Amanti's (Westfield, Mass.) outstretched hands. Then Moet De La Torre (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) (Pottsville, PA) registered the game-winning goal off the corner kick feed from Trisha Schepler (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) (Hilton, N.Y.).
From that point on the Tigers' defense and goalkeeper Carrie Yehle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park, N.Y.) kept the Soaring Eagles at bay until completing the hard earned victory. Yehle finished with nine saves on the afternoon for her sixth win of the season.
The Tigers resume action at RIT Field on Saturday for a non-conference affair hosting Hilbert at noon.
