ONEONTA, N.Y. - Junior midfielder Michelle Mattie scored with 15:49 remaining in regulation to lead the Hartwick College women's soccer team to a 1-0 Empire 8 Conference victory over RIT on Saturday afternoon.

Mattie's shot from about 20 yards away went past a diving Carrie Yehle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) of RIT. In addition, it was Mattie's first goal of the season for Hartwick (8-4-2, 4-1-0 Empire 8).

RIT had a chance to tie the game in the 80th minute when senior forward Melanie Lowe (Kingston, Jamaica/Northfield Mount Hermon) was fouled by a Hartwick defender inside the penalty box. Junior midfielder Brooke Thompson (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake) stepped in and took the subsequent penalty kick, which went wide of the left post.

Hartwick goalkeeper Maria Fernandez made five saves, while Carrie Yehle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) stopped three shots for the Tigers (9-6-0, 3-4-0 Empire 8).

The Tigers resume action at William Smith on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. and close out the regular season at Roberts Wesleyan on Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
