ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Led by Trae Lower (Gettysburg, Pa.) and Michael Lawson (Wall, N.J.), the RIT Men's Soccer team soundly defeated Elmira 3-0. The victory is the fourth in five games for RIT and helps move the Tigers into second place in the Empire 8 standings.

The Tigers have become a nemesis for Elmira recording a shutout versus the Soaring Eagles for the third straight year (4-0 in 2001, 3-0 in 2000). Lower and Rick Anthony (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) combined for three of the four goals in last year's contest. This year, Elmira was frustrated by the duo once again when Lower intercepted an attempted clear by Elmira goalkeeper Justin Bosy (Scotia, N.Y.) and connected with Anthony for the game's first goal 28 minutes into the first quarter.

RIT remained aggressive and kept the action on Elmira's half of the field throughout the game. The persistance earned the Tigers seven corner kicks, including a corner from Lawson which was put into the back of the net by defender Travis Proctor (Hemlock, N.Y.) 12 minutes into the second half. Lawson also scored a goal of his own in the closing minutes of the contest.

Proctor and the other RIT defenders stifled the offense of Elmira while holding them to only five shots versus the 19 for the Tigers.

RIT travels to St. John Fisher Wednesday October, 16th for more Empire 8 action.
