James Barclay Class of 1955

Induction Class of 1990
Wrestling

A native of Waynesburg, Pa., Jim Barclay enjoyed three stellar years of wrestling at RIT, as his versatility made him a leader in the mid-1950s. Barclay helped guide the Tigers to a 10-0 record in 1953-54, and a three-year mark of 22-6-2. Although his primary weight was 177, Barclay responded to the call and grappled anywhere from 167 to heavyweight, on one occasion, toppling a 300-pound opponent to preserve an RIT shutout. Barclay’s impressive 21-6 dual match record included seasons of 7-3, 8-2 and 6-1. In three successive years he placed fourth, third and second in the prestigious 4-I (Individual Intercollegiate Interstate Invitational) tournaments.
