Mark Stebbins, a native of Sparta, N.J., became RIT’s first national track and field champion in 1976 when he captured the NCAA Division III 400-meter intermediate hurdle crown in 51.57 seconds. After finishing second in the event to defending Olympic Champion Edwin Moses in 1977, Stebbins would win his second national title in 1978 in 51.42 seconds. He was the 1978 RIT Senior Male Athlete of the Year. A three-time All-American, Stebbins collected 781.75 points in his four-year running career at RIT, more than anyone in Tiger track history. He held 11 track records.
