Induction Class of 1984
Wrestling

Ralph Serafine wrestled at Mechanics Institute, and his best year was his final season in 1933 when he posted a 6-0 record and advanced to the NCAA’s. After drawing a bye in the opening round, Serafine met the eventual champion from Oklahoma A&M and was forced to default when he suffered cracked ribs during the match. Serafine only lost two bouts in three seasons of competition. He wrestled mainly at 126 pounds. Serafine was president of the “M” Club and a member of the student council during his career at Mechanics Institute. In 1933, he received his diploma in industrial mechanical engineering. Twenty years later, Sarafine returned to the Institute and earned his associate’s degree.
