Brian Hart was one of RIT’s all-time great wrestlers. During his wrestling career at RIT Brian won 36 tournament titles, which at the time was third best in the program’s history. In 1990 he placed second at the RIT Invitational and was eighth at the New York State Championships. After runnerup honors at the NCAA Regional Qualifiers he placed eighth at the NCAA Championship earning All-American honors. As a competitor, the team could count on Brian’s leadership and energy to stimulate even the weakest member. He was a loyal student-athlete with outstanding character. Brian not only excelled on the mat, but was also an outstanding student. He was twice named a Scholar Athlete by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. In 1990 Brian received the Ellingson Award given annually to an RIT student-athlete who exhibits a high degree of academic accomplishment. During his tenure at RIT he received a bachelor’s degree from the College of Fine & Applied Arts and a master’s in Art Education. He maintained a 3.8 grade point average.
