George L. "Bud" Cook, former basketball guard and baseball shortstop was considered a playmaker and defensive specialist. Cook captained both squads his senior year and was named RIT Athlete of the Year in 1958. In baseball, he led the team in hitting with a .438 average in 1957 and .409 mark in 1958. He held records for most total bases (37) and most runs scored (20), both coming in 1957. An athlete with pro potential, he tried out with the Pittsburgh Pirates and was offered a minor league contract. In basketball, his playmaking ability helped guide the Tigers to a 48-8 record for three campaigns.
