Buffalo, N.Y. native Jay Murphy was one of the most prolific scorers in RIT men’s hockey history. The two-year captain was a first-team All-American in his final season, 1994, after leading RIT in scoring with 61 points. In 1994, Murphy also garnered ECAC West Player of the Year honors, while propelling RIT to a 20-8-2 mark, an ECAC West title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Twice, he was the RIT Tournament MVP and won the Fan’s Choice Award as a junior. The management major finished his RIT career with 74 goals and 99 assists for 173 points, which is 15th all-time in RIT history. Murphy, whose RIT teams compiled a 59-46-7 record from 1990-94 played in the American Hockey Coaches All-Star game as a senior. Murphy went on to play professional ice and roller hockey after his time at RIT. He is the all-time leading goal scorer for the Louisiana Ice Gators.
