Jason Bovenzi enters his tenth season as the RIT head wrestling coach in 2025-26. He led the Tigers to a 6-6 dual-meet record last season with a third-place finish at the RIT Invitational, fifth place at the SUNYAC Championships and a 19th place finish at the NCAA Division III Championships.
 
Michael Glynn III, Josh Harkless, Jared Lee and Lee Rubin qualified for the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Harkless finished third at 285 lb. to earn All-American honors, while Glynn finished eighth at 149 lb. to earn All-American honors for the second straight season. Harkless was the SUNYAC Co-Wrestler of the Year, while Glyyn earned SUNYAC Wrestling Scholar Athlete of the Year honors. 

Tyler Balent, Glynn, Harkless, Jack Lampson and Rubin were selected National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American and Glynn was a First Team College Sports Communicators At-Large Academic All-American.
  
In 2024, Glynn qualified for the NCAA Tournament, earning All-American honors. Glynn, Ben Dougherty, Josh Lanka, Lee Rubin and Liam Strouse were 2024 National Wrestling Coaches Association D3 Men’s Scholar All-Americans.
 
Colby Giroux, Josh Harkless, Austin Lamb and Nate DeGroff qualified for the 2023 NCAA Tournament, with Giroux and Harkless earning All-American honors.
 
Bovenzi led RIT to a program-best seventh place finish at the NCAA Tournament in 2021-22 with Kaidon Winters, Zach Stedeford and Austin Lamb earning All-American accolades.
 
He led the Tigers to a historic season in 2018-19, earning Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Coach of the Year and National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Mideast Region Coach of the Year honors.
 
During the 2018-19 season, RIT won a program-record 12 dual matches, while sending three wrestlers (Connor Calkins, Dempsey King and Kaidon Winters) to the NCAA Championships. King was the national runner-up at 165 lbs. at the 2019 NCAA Championships, while Winters placed fifth at 157 lbs. and Calkins placed eighth at 285 lbs.
 
The Tigers excelled in the classroom as well in 2018-19, as they were honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association with a Scholar Team accolade, earning an impressive 3.54 team grade-point average. A program-record 13 wrestlers earned Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference All-Academic honors, while Joe Cutugno, Chris Horton, King and Zach Stedeford were named Scholar All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
 
In 2016-17, Bovenzi’s first season, RIT enjoyed a rebirth with nine dual wins, while sending grapplers Tory Cain, Dempsey King and Sam Weinger to the national tournament.
 
Bovenzi previously served as an assistant coach at the university from 2013-16. In 2014-15, he played an integral role in helping RIT to one of its finest seasons in four decades, as Brad Mayville and Tory Cain earned All-American honors.

Originally from the suburb of Greece in Rochester, Bovenzi was also a standout on the mats at Greece Athena High School. He is a member of both the Greece Athena and Section V Wrestling Hall of Fame.
 
Bovenzi was a standout collegiate wrestler both at St. Lawrence University and Ithaca College, advancing to the NCAA Championship four times. He was a three-time All-American and two-time National Champion in 1993 and 1995. In his final season at Ithaca in 1994-95, Bovenzi won his second straight national title at 190 lbs., finishing with an undefeated record.
 
In February of 2024, Bovenzi was inducted into the New York State Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame for his incredible collegiate career in March of 2015, and inducted into the St. Lawrence Athletics Hall of Fame in October 2015.
 
For 17 seasons, Bovenzi served as the head varsity wrestling coach at East Rochester (1996-2002) and Pittsford (2002-2013) high schools in the Greater Rochester Area. Bovenzi developed both fledgling programs into New York State ranked teams while coaching 36 class champions, 19 State Qualifiers, and a New York State champion. He coached the Panthers to a 159-58 record with 10 straight winning seasons and six state ranked teams.

In 2000, Bovenzi founded the Apex Wrestling Club, which has been one of the largest wrestling clubs in the state.  Apex Wrestling Camps have brought in Division I, II, and III All Americans, National Champions, and legendary coaches during that time frame to assist in the development of local area wrestlers.
 
Bovenzi earned his bachelor's degree in sports and leisure studies from St. Lawrence in 1994, health education concentration degree from Ithaca in 1995, and his master's degree in liberal studies from The College at Brockport in 2000. He is a Physical Education Teacher in the Pittsford Central School District.
