Tyler Russell begins his first season as an assistant coach at RIT. He finished his career tied for 24th all time at the university in scoring with 143 career points, and is tenth all time at RIT with 128 career goals.

Russell played lacrosse for RIT from 2009-2012, three years under current RIT head coach Jake Coon. He was a two-time USILA All-American, as well as a USILA Scholar All-American in 2012. Russell currently holds the record for most goals in a season at RIT, tallying 69 in 2011.

Russell earned his degree from the Saunders School of Business, finishing with a 3.26 GPA. After graduation Russell went to work in the finance industry from 2012-2014. A native of Livonia, N.Y., Russell remained heavily involved with lacrosse, helping out at Livonia and volunteering with ROC E6’s inner-city lacrosse program. He also spent the 2016-2017 season as a Volunteer Assistant coach at Division 1, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), primarily working with the goalies and offense.

In the fall of 2014, Russell began working with Building Blocks Lacrosse (BBL), located in central New Jersey. From 2014-2017, Russell learned the ins and outs of the lacrosse industry, ultimately leading to his role as the Director of their Youth Program. During his time at BBL, he saw the program reach new heights, winning multiple tournaments at the youth level and also sending a team to Denver for the World Series of Youth Lacrosse. In addition to running the youth program, he also founded BBL’s Box Lacrosse program, which was one of the first authentic box experiences for players in the area.

Currently, he resides in Rochester and works as a Director for Harvest Lacrosse.
