Cassidy Goepel begins her fourth year as an assistant coach for RIT crew and her third leading the varsity women in 2016-17.  Last season, Goepel was a major reason why RIT earned the Liberty League Women’s Coaching Staff of the Year for the second consecutive season.
 
Under Goepel’s guidance, the women’s varsity program continues to grow. Last season, the women’s varsity eight earned five Liberty League weekly honors and was honored as the league’s Crew of the Year for the second consecutive year. They earned the bronze medal at the New York State Rowing Championships.
 
Goepel has prior experience coaching for Ithaca College during the Spring of 2013 where she worked primarily with the lightweight and open weight varsity fours. More recently, Goepel worked as an assistant coach for an intermediate masters group and a Learn to Scull program out of Genesee Waterways Center. 

Goepel, originally from Connecticut, started her rowing career in 2003 at The Gunnery School and continued to row during her four years at Ithaca College until she graduated in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in clinical health studies. During her time as an undergrad, her boat won the New York State Championship two years in a row and she competed in the NCAA championship, earning a fourth place overall team award. She was also able to participate in the inaugural year of the varsity sculling program at Ithaca College during her first year of graduate work culminating in a first place finish for the lightweight doubles event at the Head of the Fish. 

Goepel received a doctorate of physical therapy from Ithaca College in 2014. She is a physical therapist for Mary Cariola Children’s Center in Rochester and continues to row competitively as a master’s rower.
