Dempsey defeated 30 Division I pole vaulters and broke his own school record, as the RIT men's track and field team competed at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational. Dempsey, the 2010 NCAA runner-up in both the indoor and outdoor pole vault events, broke his own school record with a leap of 5.10 meters, equaling the best jump in Division III this season. He was just one of two vaulters to crack 5.00 meters at the prestigious New Balance Invitational. That leap automatically qualifies him for the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championship on March 11-12 in Columbus, Ohio.
