Hardbarger was named the Outstanding Track Athlete of the 2009 Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Championships after recording two first-place finishes.  He took the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.68, and the 1-mile run with a time of 4:18.69, breaking his own record for the meet.  He was an All-Empire 8 first team selection in both events.
