Danielle Simmons won the 800-meter race at St. Lawrence on Saturday, where she ran a 2:12.24 which is currently the fastest time in the nation. Danielle was tucked in behind Senior Lisa Curtin who was serving the pace-setting duties. The two Tigers pursued O'Brien through the 400m in a perfectly paced 65 seconds. Just past 400m Danielle took off in pursuit of O'Brien on her own then caught and passed her at the 500m point. Surging down the windy backstretch Danielle continued to pull away from the tired O'Brien and stretched her lead. With 100m to go it was apparent that Simmons was on her way to an incredible time and her Tiger teammates cheered her all the way to victory.
"This was the first meet in over 6 weeks that I felt completely healthy after battling a small bronchial infection," said Simmons, "I felt strong the whole way and really appreciate the pacing that Lisa provided."
