In a convincing fashion, the men’s soccer team has posted a three game winning streak that began on Sept. 21 in the 2-0 home victory against Utica College. In the past week, two more wins have accumulated against Buffalo State (4-1) and Alfred University (3-0). The Tigers are currently in a three-way tie for first place alongside Ithaca College and local rival, Nazareth College.
Key to the Tigers recent success, in particular, has been Mike Lawson. Lawson provided RIT with the first goals in both games this past week. The Tigers seem to have adopted a “first strike” policy considering the fact that RIT has scored the first goal in the the past seven games, starting with the match against Cortland State on September 7. Of these seven games, the past three have been victories and in the past two games, Lawson has provided the initial goals in each game.
“Mike has consistently been one of our best players since the beginning of the season. This past week he has really started to assert himself more offensively,” noted Tigers head coach, Bill Garno. “Mike is a tireless worker in the center midfield spot, and has been one of the keys to our team starting to find itself more in the offensive end,” added Garno.
The Tigers will face a strong Ithaca team on October 5, at Ithaca.
