As the five seed in last weekend's Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional Championships, Chachu won his first four matches, over Eric Prince of UR (6-1, 6-4), R. J. Ermola of NYU (6-4, 7-5), four seed Peter Pine of Hobart (6-4, 6-4), and eighth seeded Dan Williford of UR (7-5, 7-5). In the Championship match, Chachu faced three seed Mike Thompson of NYU, and fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Separate from the NCAA Tournament, the overall winner of an ITA Regional competition earns the right to move on to the ITA Nationals in San Antonio, Texas.
Chachu will lead the Tigers, who were 7-6 (4-1) overall in 2003 when they open their season against Rochester on March 28, 2004.
