The men’s wrestling team traveled to Oswego State for their first match of the season on Thursday. The Tigers narrowly defeated Oswego 20-19. The Lakers entered the match ranked 27th in the Brute-Adidas NWCA Division III Preseason Poll.

Pat North (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna), the top ranked wrestler at 165 pounds in the preseason individual poll, put the Tigers right back in front, scoring a win by technical fall over Oswego State’s Chris DeMichiel in 5 minutes and 30 seconds. North’s victory came after teammate Tom Schwarting was pinned with two seconds left in the opening period.

The win earned RIT five team points and a 20-16 lead. The Lakers needed at least four points to pull even in the final match of the dual meet with the final weight class being at 174 pounds but could achieve the point in the final bout.

North is currently 6-0 overall and 1-0 in dual matches in the 165 weight category. The Tigers resume action on Dec. 7, hosting the RIT Tournament at 9:30 a.m.
