Harkless finished eighth at 197 pounds to earn All-American honors at the 2023 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships. After starting the tournament with a 6-0 setback to top-seeded Coy Spooner (Coast Guard), Harkless pinned Ferrum's Braden Homsey and beat seventh-seeded Camden Farrow (York), 7-2, to advance in the consolation bracket. Harkless ended the tournament by falling to three-seed Doug Byrne and five-seed Beau Yineman, both by decision.
