ROCHESTER, NY – Lou Spiotti, Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at RIT, is proud to announce the promotion of Bethany Schlegel as Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance at the university, effective immediately.

Schlegel spent the last two years as Assistant Athletic Director at RIT. She was the lead administrator for the university's Division I men's and women's hockey teams and served as main supervisor of the department's game-day operations, among other administrative duties.

In her new role, Schlegel will oversee and manage the NCAA, university and governmental compliance requirements and NCAA team and individual eligibility process for the RIT Intercollegiate Athletics program. In addition, she will manage the student-athlete conduct process and will be the point person for rules education and enforcement and maintaining those associated with the RIT Athletics program compliant with the prevailing legislation and requirements.

"I am very excited to be moving into a new role that allows me to grow and continue to serve the RIT athletics department," said Schlegel. "I would like to thank Lou Spiotti for this opportunity and look forward to continuing my career at RIT."

She replaces Lex Sleeman, who retired in May after spending 31 years at RIT, including the last 11 as Associate Director for Athletics/NCAA Compliance.

"We are thrilled to have someone of Bethany Schlegel's qualifications and experience take on this critical role as Associate Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Compliance Officer in our program," said Spiotti. "The scope and complexity of our multi-divisional program places unique demands on our organization. Bethany's experience and track record as a professional and a student welfare advocate will serve us well in this respect in the months and years ahead"

Before arriving at RIT, Schlegel served as the assistant director for athletics at Division I Iona College. At Iona, Schlegel was an academic advisor, monitoring the progress and coordinating services for Iona's student-athletes. In addition, she assisted the athletic director for compliance and was a co-advisor to the Iona Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Prior to her appointment at Iona, Schlegel served as the assistant director of athletics at Finger Lakes Community College. At FLCC, her primary duties included academic advisement of student-athletes, NJCAA eligibility and compliance, and event supervision of home athletics, among other roles.

Schlegel earned her bachelor's degree in physical education and health sciences from The College at Brockport in 2009 and master's degree in athletics administration, also at Brockport in 2012.
