Women's crew races at Black Rock Invitational

BUFFALO, NY – RIT's women's crew team competed in the Black Rock Invitational hosted by Canisius College on Sunday. Crews including Drake University and Robert Morris University raced on a 2,000-meter course on the Black Rock Canal. The Tigers first varsity eight and second varsity eight advanced to the grand final, with the second varsity eight winning their event.
 
In the second varsity eight heats, RIT's third varsity eight finished third in a time of 7:43.26 behind first place Canisius (7:19.41) and Drake (7:38.39). In the petite final, the Tigers closed the gap on Drake, but were edged at the line by less than a second. RIT raced to a time of 7:49.69 while the Bulldogs stopped the clock at 7:48.84. Robert Morris finished third in 8:01.23.
 
The Tigers second varsity eight won their heat against Robert Morris, posting a time of 7:22.92 to the Colonials' 7:49.54. In the grand final, RIT faced off against Canisius, besting the Golden Griffins by just over two seconds. The Tigers won in 7:22.47 while Canisius raced to a time of 7:24.87.
 
RIT's first varsity eight also won their heat against Robert Morris, 7:16.23 to 7:49.88. Racing Canisius in the grand final, the Tigers were bested by the Griffs with Canisius posted a winning time of 7:08.0 to RIT's time of 7:14.81.
 
RIT will compete in the Liberty League Championships on Friday, May 4 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The following day, May 5, Saratoga Springs will also host the New York State Collegiate Rowing Championships.
