ROCHESTER, NY – Seven members of the RIT wrestling team earned 2017-18 Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference All-Academic Team honors, as announced on Tuesday, March 27.
Senior
Coty Lutz (Forestport, NY/Adirondack), junior
Joe Cutugno (Ventnor, NJ/Atlantic City) and freshmen
Owen Albanese (Canastota, NY/Canastota),
Matt Cicco (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield),
Joey Monteleone (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa),
Trevor Snow (Dexter, NY/General Brown) and
Jakob Warner (Wayland, MA/Wayland) were honored for RIT. Lutz earned his third ECWC All-Academic Team accolade, while Cutugno is a repeat honoree.
Recipients of this honor must have a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or higher (through the last eligible grading period of the current academic year) while completing an entire season as a member of a conference institution's wrestling team. Freshmen and transfers that have been enrolled full-time for at least one semester are eligible to receive this honor. A total of 44 wrestlers were honored as members of the ECWC All-Academic Team.
Earlier this month, RIT was one of 31 teams to be honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) with a Scholar Team accolade for their excellent work in the classroom in 2017-18. The Tigers had a cumulative grade-point average of 3.43 during the 2017-18 season, placing 24th in the nation among Division III schools and third among Empire College Wrestling Conference programs.
The Tigers enjoyed another strong season in 2017-18, finishing with nine dual victories, while sending three wrestlers to the NCAA Championship for the second consecutive year.
