WILKES BARRE, PA – The RIT wrestling team (8-7) went 2-1 at the John Reese Duals hosted by Wilkes University on Sunday. RIT opened the day with a 44-12 win over Keystone College before suffering a 22-21 loss to host Wilkes. The Tigers rebounded by rolling to a 43-12 victory over Lackawanna College.
 
Kaidon Winters (Athens, PA/Athens Area) (157 lbs.), Joe Cutugno (Ventnor, NJ/Atlantic City) (184 lbs.), Matt Cicco (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) (197 lbs.) and Connor Calkins (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond) (285 lbs.) all went 3-0, while Cole Murphy (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) (149 lbs.) finished 2-0. Andrew Flanagan (Holley, NY/Holley) (125 lbs.), Colby Hall (Deposit, NY/Deposit) (165 lbs.) and Joe Lupisella (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) (174 lbs.) went 2-1.
 
After Winters won his first match vs. Keystone via forfeit, he recorded a pair of pins to improve to 34-7 on the season and 14-1 in dual matches. His 18 wins by pins are tied for the second most in one season at the university, one shy of the mark of 19, held by three-time NCAA Champion Matt Hamill.
 
Calkins won his first two matches via technical fall and his final match by fall, improving to 8-3 at RIT. Both of Flanagan's wins came by pin. Cutugno and Cicco's big days give them both 18 wins on the season.
 
RIT trailed 12-6 early in the opening match against Keystone, before winning the final seven bouts. Against Wilkes, the Tigers found themselves in a 17-0 deficit before clawing back to nearly win the match. RIT never trailed vs. Lackawanna, winning eight of the 10 matches, including five by fall. Cole Murphy (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) pinned his opponent at 149 lbs. in 10 seconds.

The Tigers are off next weekend and return to action on Saturday, Feb. 10 by hosting the Tiger Duals at Clark Gym.
