SHENANDOAH, TX – Sophomores
Amy Adams (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) and
Sedera Zbranak (Austin, TX/Lake Travis) of the RIT women's swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday, March 18 at the Conroe ISD Natatorium.
Competing in the 200-yard breaststroke, Adams placed 28th overall in the preliminaries with a time of 2:25.71, missing out on the finals by six seconds.
Zbranak was 27th overall in the 200-yard backstroke preliminaries, finishing in a time of 2:05.13. She did not qualify for tonight's final.
On Wednesday, Adams recorded a personal best time of 24.87 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries on Wednesday, but did not qualify for the final. She finished 19th overall in her preliminary heat of the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday, just missing a qualifying berth in the final and All-American status by three spots and 21 one-hundredths of a second with a time of 1:04.12.
Zbranak recorded a time of 1:52.92 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle preliminaries on Thursday, finishing seventh in her heat and 33rd overall. On Friday, Zbranak placed 30th overall in the preliminaries of the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.41 seconds, which was 44 one-hundredths of a second shy of her school mark.
Adams broke a pair of individual school marks and was part of two record-setting relay teams at the 2017 UNYSCSA Championships in Ithaca from Feb. 15-18 which helped her qualify for the national championship meet. Adams was runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke, breaking her own school mark with a time of 1:03.66. Adams also broke her own school record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:25.04. She was part of the record-setting 200-yard medley relay (1:45.76) and 400-yard medley relay (3:54.78).
Zbranak broke three individual school marks and was part of four record-setting relay teams at the 2017 UNYSCSA Championships in Ithaca from Feb. 15-18. She became RIT's first swimmer to win an individual event at the state meet since 2010, while recording a pair of runner-up finishes. Zbranak was the state champion in 200-yard freestyle with a school-record time of 1:51.62 and was runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke (56.97) and 200-backstroke (2:03.35) to qualify for the national championship.
The RIT women's swimming and diving program has had a long and proud history, with 15 different All-Americans.
