ROCHESTER, NY – Senior defender and co-captain
Emily Shoemaker (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) of the RIT women's soccer team was named to the 2015 NSCAA All-East Region First Team on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Shoemaker becomes the second Tiger player ever to be named to the first team, joining Jamie Martinez, who did so in 2012 and 2013.
Shoemaker started all 18 games for the Tigers in 2015, anchoring a stingy back line that allowed just 0.72 goals per game, second in the Liberty League. The defense racked up nine shutouts, going on a dominant stretch in which RIT went six straight games and 626 minutes between allowing a goal. On offense, Shoemaker tallied an assist in a 6-0 victory against Fredonia on Sept. 19.
Shoemaker was an All-Liberty League First Team selection this season, while earning Liberty League Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 6. In 2014, Shoemaker was named an All-Liberty League honorable mention selection, and in 2012 was the Liberty League Rookie of the Year. She missed nearly all of the 2013 season due to injury.
"It's great to see Emily receive this deserving recognition following an outstanding senior season," said RIT women's soccer head coach
Liz Masterson. "She earned the respect of her teammates, coaching staff, and opponents over the course of her four years at RIT, and an award like this is a great way to highlight her impressive career."
RIT finished 2015 with a 12-4-2 overall record and finished second in the Liberty League standings with 19 points and a 6-1-1 record in conference play. The Tigers advanced to the Liberty League Tournament for the fifth consecutive year.
