TEAM SCORES
TROY, NY – The RIT women's swimming and diving team picked up a win on the diving boards, finished in fourth place overall out of 10 teams at the 2015 Liberty League Championships, held at Union and RPI on December 4-5. The Tigers finished strong with 714 points, after a sixth-place finish after the first session on Friday evening. Rochester finished with 1,728 points, winning back-to-back championships, with RPI (1,542) and Vassar (822) trailing behind.
The lone win for RIT came from
Natalie Snyder (Rockville, MD/Rockville), who won the 1-meter dive with a score of 432.55 points. Snyder ended her weekend with a fourth place finish on the 3-meter dive, finishing with 403.90 points, and 58 out of a possible 64 team points in the championships.
The Tigers started day one with a seventh place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of
Daylen Smith (Lockwood, NY/Waverly),
Genevieve Senecal (Westfield, MA/Westfield),
Sarah Evans (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna), and
Sedera Zbranak (Austin, TX/Lake Travis) finished the event in 1:42.48, just over a second and a half out of third place.
In the 200-yard breaststroke,
Rachel Kobel (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) finished in 12th place, swimming in a time of 2:18.70. Addy Maykish finished 10th in the 500-yard freestyle, with a time of 5:23.51. Katie Mayer placed 13th at the 50-yard freestyle, with a time of 25.93, with Evans following in 16th, 21-hundredths of a second after. In the 400-yard medley relay, Zbranak, Mayer, Senecal, and Evans placed sixth, finishing in 4:06.32.
The Tigers were strong in day two, as Zbranak posted four top-five finishes in the second day. The freshman started the second session with teammates Meyer, Senecal, and Evans with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing in 1:52.80. Zbranak then turned to the individual events, starting with a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (59.45), then posting two second-place finishes, in the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.78) and a close battle in the 100-yard backstroke, her time of 58.63 less than a second behind the winner.
In the finale, Zbranak, and teammates Evans, Senecal, and Smith, placed fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing in 3:42.06. Zbranak ended her first Liberty League Championships helping RIT with 81 points in individual events, and 283 points overall.
In the long 1,650-yard freestyle event, Abby Maykish finished fourth with a time of 18:19.45. Olivia Philips posted an impressive 2:13.79 in the 200-yard butterfly, good for sixth place, improving from a 'seed' time of 2:18.66.
The Tigers will take a break, resuming action with a road dual matchup with Hamilton, on Jan. 16.
