SPRINGFIELD, MA - The RIT men's track and field team placed 13th out of 65 teams who scored at the 2013 ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Blake Track held at Springfield College on Thursday and Friday. Bates College won the team title with 79 team points.
On Thursday, senior
Mike Kurvach (Victor, NY/Victor) continued his tremendous Spring season, winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase by just under 10 seconds in a season-best time of 9:09.62. Currently, it is the 17th best time in all of Division III this season and a little more than five seconds away from the school mark.
Fellow senior
Mike Haynes (Groton, MA/Groton Dunstable) recorded a career-best throw of 55.10 meters in finishing sixth in the hammer throw.
Marquis Moore (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) had a leap of 14.22 meters in the triple jump to place ninth.
On Friday, RIT's 4 x 800-meter relay team of
Peter Thorpe (Milltown, NJ/Spotswood),
Adam Irr (Newfane, NY/Newfane), Kurvach, and
CJ Brunner (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West) recorded a fifth place finish, with a strong time of 7:49.21, just over three seconds shy of the school mark.
Jamie Dorren (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) was 17th in the high jump with a leap of 1.91 meters. RIT's 4 x 100-meter relay team of
Zach Pfister (Waterbury, VT/Harwood),
Cameron Lee (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland),
Mike Andrews (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott), and
Drake Wilson (Monterey, CA/York) was 12th with a time of 42.60 seconds. Lee was also 16th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.21 seconds.
RIT will await potential berths for the 2013 NCAA Division III National Championships, held at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex in Lacrosse, Wis. from May 23-25.
