WEBSTER, NY - The RIT men's swimming and diving team finished sixth at the 2012 UNYSCSA Championships held at the Webster Aquatics Complex. The Tigers finished sixth out of 13 teams with 567.50 points. Ithaca wom the title with 1,479 points.
On Saturday,
Kevin Christiansen (Penfield, NY/Penfield) finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of :47.08.
Joe Meiman (Milford, NH/Milford) placed twelfth in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:12.64, while
Peter Coutts (Statsburg, NY/F.D. Roosevelt High School) placed thirteenth in a time of 2:12.82.
The team of
Cory Deacon (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili),
Van Hopson (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School),
Ryan Brannan (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and Christiansen placed fifth in the 400-yard freestyle realy in a time of 3:11.26.
Friday's preliminaries saw
Joe Meima (Milford, NH/Milford) qualify for the finals in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of :59.62.
Peter Coutts (Statsburg, NY/F.D. Roosevelt High School) was tenth in the preliminary heats finishing in a time of 1:00.08. In the finals, Coutts finished tenth in a time of 1:00.60
The 800-yard freestyle realy team of
Wade Piotrowski (Webster, NY/Webster Schroder),
Scott Farrell (Buffalo, NY/North Tonawanda),
Cory Deacon (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili) and
Kevin Christiansen (Penfield, NY/Penfield) finished seventh in the finals in a time of 7:05.43.
In diving action,
John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka) finished third in the one meter board with a score of 477.45.
On Thursday evening, the 200-yard medley team of
Kevin Christiansen (Penfield, NY/Penfield),
Peter Coutts (Statsburg, NY/F.D. Roosevelt High School),
Ryan Brannan (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena), and
Cory Deacon (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili) broke a seven-year old school record by nearly a second, finishing seventh in 1:35.62 on Wednesday.
On Thursday morning, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Christiansen, Deacon, Brannan, and
Van Hopson (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School) tied a six-year old record with a time of 1:25.03, the fourth fastest mark of the day. Deacon swam his 50-free leg in 20.83 seconds. The squad finished fifth in the final with a time of 1:25.12
In the 3-meter diving event,
John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka) held the lead after the preliminaries with a tremendous score of 531.05. He finished fifth overall in the final with a score of 5:02.40.
On Wednesday, Christiansen placed seventh in the 50-yard freestyle with a strong time of 21.42 seconds. Earlier in the day, he swam the preliminary event in 21.29 seconds. Deacon, Brannan and
Van Hopson (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School) all broke 22 seconds in the event, earning top-20 finishes.
On Thursday, Christiansen placed 18th in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:45.00. Brannan was 19th in the 100-fly with a time of 53.59 seconds. The 400-yard medley relay team of
Nate Marshall (Waverly, NY/Waverly),
Joe Meiman (Milford, NH/Milford), Brannan, and Hopson was eight in a time of 3:38.01.
