ROCHESTER, NY -- Former RIT men's soccer standout
Dan Holowaty (Strongsville, OH/St. Ignatius) recently signed with the Dayton Dutch Lions FC of the United Soccer League. Holowaty, a Strongsville Ohio native, returns home to play for the Dutch Lions who finished eighth in the National Division of the USL last season.
“Dan is a kind of player we were searching for,” said Dutch Lions Head Coach Ivar van Dintern. “He has an incredible work rate, never gives up, and is the type of player who fits in our "Dutch" system. “
Holowaty led the Tigers with eight goals and 20 points in 2011. He scored his first career hat trick in a 4-0 win over SUNY Morrisville on Sept. 7 and scored in both of RIT/s postseason contests. He was named the RIT Male Athlete of the Week twice and was an All-Liberty League first team selection.
He finished tied for seventh in the conference in points with 20, and was eighth in the league averaging 1.00 points per game. His eight goals were good for fifth in the Liberty League. Holowaty finished his stellar career tied for 11th all-time in points at RIT with 61 and 11th in career goals with 24. In addition, his 10 game-winning goals are sixth best in RIT's storied history.
“Daniel has been a leading contributor to our program since his freshman year,” Said RIT Head Coach
Bill Garno. “We're excited that he'll have this opportunity to play in the USL Pro league. He's earned this opportunity through hard work and development during his career here at RIT and I'm really looking forward to seeing him play at the next level. His past teammates, our staff, and alumni all wish him the best.”
