Men's cross country earns strong second place finish at Albany Invitational

ALBANY, NY -- The RIT men's cross country team had another excellent performance this weekend, placing second among division I and division III teams at the Albany Invitational on Saturday. The Tigers tallied 73 points, while first place Marist College finished with a score of 47.  In addition, RIT competed at the Yellowjacket Invitational at Genesee Valley Park on Saturday as well.

The Tigers bested nationally ranked Plattsburgh State Cardinals, beating the 25th ranked Cardinals by a whopping 88 points.  It is the fourth time in school history that RIT defeated a nationally-ranked team, and first time since 2006.

Senior Jared Burdick (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) was RIT's top runner for the third meet in a row, placing third with an impressive time of 24:44. Senior Mike Brindak (Syracuse, NY/Solvay) was next for the Tigers, finishing with a time of 25:13, placing sixth.

Michael Hardbarger (Parkersburg, WV/Ritchie County) was 11th and finished in a time of 25:24. Sophomore Will Craig (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) was RIT's fourth runner, finishing the course in 25:42, placing 24th. Fourth year Nick Lowe (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) finished out the top five for the Tigers, coming in 29th overall with a time of 25:46.

When asked about the team's performance, Head Coach Dave Warth said, “I think this was the first race of the year where we showed everyone what we are capable of doing, but I truly believe that our best races are in front of us.”

RIT retunrs to action next Saturday, October 24, at Genesee Valley Park in Rocheste r at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference championships.
