Jess Calzolari and Emma Jones to represent RIT at 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships

ROCHESTER, NY – Seniors Jess Calzolari (Longmont, CO/Mead) and Emma Jones (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) will represent RIT women's track and field at the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will take place on Friday, March 10 and Saturday, March 11 at the Res Recreational Center hosted by North Central College in Naperville, IL.
 
Calzolari is making her first appearance in the NCAA Championships and will compete in the pentathlon. All five of her events will take place on Friday, as the 60-meter hurdles begin at 11:30 a.m. EST, high jump starts at 12:15 p.m., shot put at 2:15 p.m., long jump commences at 3:30 p.m. and the final event, the 800-meters, gets underway at 5:40 p.m. EST.
 
This season, Calzolari broke the RIT indoor records in the high jump (1.61 meters) and triple jump (11.42 meters). She was also the 2017 Liberty League Field Performer of the Championship meet, leading the Tigers to their first league title. Calzolari has the 16th best score in the pentathlon in Division III this season, having recorded 3,234 points at the NYSCTC Championships on Feb. 24.
 
Calzolari is also RIT's record holder in the outdoor high jump, with a leap of 1.62 meters, set last year. She is a three-time Liberty League Athlete of the Week in 2016-17.
 
Jones, who was an All-American at the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Championships, will compete in the mile run and make her first appearance at the track and field national championship. The preliminaries for the mile take place on Friday at 2 p.m. EST, with the championship to be raced on Saturday, also at 2 p.m.
 
On March 4, Jones became RIT's first women's runner to crack five minutes in the mile, placing second overall at the Tufts Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday in a school record time of 4:59.95. She is seeded 13th in the mile run. Last month, she won the 3,000-meter run and was second in the mile at the Liberty League Indoor Championship.
 
Jones became RIT's first women's cross country All-American after placing 34th overall at the 2016 NCAA Championship in November. She enjoyed a tremendous cross country career at RIT, earning All-Liberty League first team and All-NCAA Atlantic Region accolades in each of her four seasons at RIT (2013-16). She is a 13-time RIT Athlete of the Week.
