Men's track and field continues impressive season at Hamilton's Continental Invitational

The RIT men's track and field team enjoyed an excellent day of competition at the Continental Invitational, hosted by Hamilton College on Saturday.  Several student-athletes recorded impressive showings.

Ben Casto (Fork Union, VA/Fluvanna County), Andrew Bogdan (/) and Michael Peters finished first, second and third in the 5,000 Meter run with times of 16:30.94, 16:42.88, and 16:45.90 respectively. Cameron Lee (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland) and Benjamin Kelley finished second and fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with times of 8.50 and 8.78 seconds. Tristan deJesus (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) and Lee finished fifth and sixth in the 60-meter dash, seperated by six one-thousandths of a second. Matt Giannino (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy), Mike Ballow (Clarence, NY/Clarence) and #C.J. Brunner# finished first, second and fourth in the 800-meters with times of 1:59.00, 2:00.79 and 2:01.62 respectively.

Joshua Norris and Ian Switaj (Landisburg, PA/West Perry) finished third in the 500-meter dash with times of 1:09.38 and 1:11.90 respectively. Mike Andrews (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) finished fifth in the Men's 400-meter dash with a time of 52.33, while Zach Nelson (Victor, NY/Victor) finished sixth in the Men's 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:38.38. Kyle Reid (Farmington, NY/Victor) finished in eighth place in the mile with a time of 4:34.91.

RIT's 4 x 200-meter Relay team of Lee, Andrews, Zach Pfister (Waterbury, VT/Harwood) and Norris combined for a second place finish with a time of 1:33.24. The 4 x 800-meter Relay team of Mike Ballow (Clarence, NY/Clarence), Giannino, Nelson and Reid finished third with a time of 8:17.07.

On the field side, RIT also excelled.  Jamie Dorren (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) finished second in the high jump with height of 1.93 meters, while Caleb Brochu (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) won the pole vault with a vault of 4.30 meters. Joe Cronin (Albany, NY/Bethlehem Central) was third and Steven DiGerardo (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) fifth in the same event.  Cronin lept in 4.30 meters, while DiGerardo recorded a height of 3.85 meters. Marquis Moore (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) and Dorren finished third and fourth in long jump with leaps of 6.48 and 6.31 meters, respectively.  Moore and Jonathan St. Preux (Dedham, MA/Dedham) finished first and fourth in the triple jump with jumps of 13.57 and 12.27 meters, respectively.

Casey Doty (Holley, NY/Holley) finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 15.83 meters. Mike Haynes (Groton, MA/Groton Dunstable) was third in the shot put with a toss of 13.26 meters.

The Tigers return to action on Friday and Saturday, as they compete at the GaReat Collegiate Showcase in Geneva, Ohio.
