PITTSFORD, NY -- The RIT men's soccer team scored two goals in the last nine minutes of regulation to beat St. John Fisher College 2-0 in Empire 8 action on Friday night. Sophomore
Matt Broedel (Hamilton, NY/Hamilton) scored in the 81st and 89th minutes to lift the Tigers to victory. RIT improves to 6-4-3 overall and 1-1-2 in the Empire 8.
With time winding down in regulation, Broedel scored what would prove to be the game-winner in the 81st minute. He added an insurance goal in the 89th minute, chipping the ball over the Fisher keeper who was well out of his net.
The Tigers defense turned in another solid performance allowing just eight total shots and only two on net. Freshman
Sean Conway (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) picked up his sixth win of the season, making two saves. The shut-out was Conway's fifth of the season.
RIT out shot the Cardinals 15-8. The Tigers took six corner kicks to five for St. John Fisher. Robert Weigand made seven saves in net for Fisher in the loss.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, October 8 at Buffalo State. Kick-off is at 4 pm.
