A native of Deer Park, N.Y., Bill Bjorness was one of the finest attackmen to ever play NCAA lacrosse. In four seasons, he shattered the school record by scoring 266 points, including 154 goals. He was RIT's first three-time lacrosse All-American (first team in 1984 and 1986, second team in 1985 despite missing five games with a broken foot). Empire Athletic Association (EAA) Player of the Year in 1984, Bjorness was a four-time All-EAA selection and led the nation in scoring as a sophomore with 86 points. After his senior campaign, Bjorness was selected to participate in the prestigious Senior North/South Lacrosse Game. During his career, RIT appeared in four NCAA playoffs, advancing to the semifinals in 1984 and 1985. RIT's four-year record was 49-10 and included three EAA titles and runnerup honors in 1984. When he completed his lacrosse career in 1986, Bjorness held school marks for most goals (154) and most points (266) in a career. His point record was recently broken by David Thering in 2006 who scored 293. In hockey, Bjorness played one memorable season. In 1982-83, he won a championship ring as a forward for the NCAA Division II Champion Tigers.
