Vern Titus has become a legend in RIT athletics, as his efforts did much toward furthering intercollegiate athletics at the Institute. Titus was appointed a member of the Athletic Committee in 1962. Through the efforts of Titus and others, the RIT Hall of Fame was started in 1969 and several sports attained intercollegiate status. Titus joined RIT as an instructor in psychology, management and economics in 1946. In 1950, he was appointed head of management division, College of Continuing Education. Titus served as chairman of both the Athletic and Hall of Fame Committees until his retirement in 1975.
