Tom Sill and former coach Bill Tierney came to RIT in 1982.  Tierney had coached Sill at Levittown Memorial High School.  Sill was an important member of a stubborn RIT defense that held the opposition to 7.8 goals throughout his career, while his teammates were tallying 12.7.  He ended his career in style with second team All-American honors in 1985, and was the first RIT player ever chosen to play in the USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game that same year.  He was also a three-time All-Independent College Athletic Conference selection.  During his four seasons the Tigers appeared in three NCAA Division III playoffs, advancing to the semifinal round twice.  Sill was a team captain, three-year starter and Most Improved Player in 1983.

Former coach Bill Tierney (now at Princeton University) stated: “Tom had the skills to keep our opponents’ top attackmen in check.  He also made numerous outstanding plays which led to RIT goals.  He was one of our steadiest defensemen.”  Added former coach Bill Glennon:  “Tom lived up to his All-American potential in his senior year.  He had excellent knowledge of the game and consistently covered the top attackmen.”
