Stephen Burns was an elite two-sport athlete at RIT from 2004-08. An outstanding javelin thrower on the track team, he also played defense on the hockey team that transitioned from Division III to Division I. A native of Newmarket, Ontario, Burns proudly boasts an NCAA Division III championship in the javelin, winning the crown in 2008. He earned his first All-American title in 2006 by placing fifth. Twice he was named Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Year. He won three Empire 8 javelin titles and also captured the New York State crown in 2007. Burns played in 100 career contests on the ice and won the Green B. Williams Award for academic excellence three times.
