After a heralded two years at Broome County Community College, Ron Thorpe was quick to adjust to his new court at RIT. The point guard responded by tallying 785 points in two seasons, averaging 15.4 points per game. Thorpe led the Tigers in scoring over that span. As a junior in 1981-82, the native of Elmhurst, N.Y. helped guide the Tigers to the Chase Scholarship Tournament title. The following year he was named All- Tournament as RIT lost in the semifinals. A two-year captain, Thorpe was RIT’s first All-Eastern College Athletic Conference selection in 1981-82. Twice he was All- Empire Athletic Association. In 51 career contests, Thorpe scored in double figures 41 times, including a career best 31 points against Elmira in the season opener in 1981-82. Over two seasons, he shot a phenomenal 55.2 percent from the floor.
