Phil Ferranti Jr., who majored in business administration at RIT, played baseball from 1975 to 1979. An outfielder, Ferranti played at a time when RIT offered fall and spring baseball seasons. Considered an iron horse, Ferranti started 163 consecutive games over fall and spring campaigns. During that time, he helped guide the Tigers to 85 victories. Four seasons he hit over .300 and finished with a career batting average of .287. He is second on the career list in at bats with 506 over eight seasons and 349 in four spring campaigns. He also scored 100 runs, recorded 145 hits and tallied 81 runs batted in. His best season came in the fall of 1978 when he batted .323 with a team-leading four doubles. Ferranti also carded an impressive career fielding average of .952 over 163 contests. Twice team captain, Ferranti had a major impact on the program, leading the Tigers to three Eastern College Athletic Conference finals, including a championship in 1977. That year the fall team compiled a 9-2-1 record, which is the best winning percentage in school history. Individual accolades include being named a first team Upper New York State All-Star, and first team All-Independent College Athletic Conference, both honors coming in 1977. In 1978 he won the team's Pete Koval Sportsmanship Award, named in honor of a deceased RIT baseball player.
