Named Senior Male Athlete of the Year, Mike Lawson had a stellar career with the RIT men’s soccer team. He started all 71 games, posting 40 points from his midfield position. Four times he was named All-Empire 8, including Player of the Year honors in 2004 and 2005. He was also league Rookie of the Year in 2002. Mike helped guide the Tigers to Empire 8 titles in 2004 and 2005. He was also named RIT Athlete of the Week three times. In 2004, Mike led the Tigers to the first round of the NCAA Championships. Mike also served as RIT captain for three years. Academically, he was a two-time NSCAA Academic All-American in 2004 and 2005. As an undergraduate, he maintained a 3.64 grade point average in Social Work. In his graduate studies, he had a 3.90 GPA in Deaf Education. While he continued toward his master’s degree he served as an assistant coach under Bill Garno. Today he is a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing at Neptune Middle School in Neptune, NJ.
