The first swimmer recruited by John Buckholtz, Mike Cahill has the distinction of swimming on RIT’s initial varsity team. A two-year captain, Cahill set several school records and capped it off as one of three Senior Athletes of the Year in 1972. Under the old three-place scoring system, Cahill tallied 386 points during his career, helping guide the Tigers to a 37-13 record, including its only undefeated season of 16-0 in 1970-71. A member of two state championship relays, the Rochester native consistently placed in the Upper New York State meet. Cahill was named the team’s Outstanding Swimmer in 1968-69. At one time he held school marks in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyles, 200-yard individual medley, and as a member of the record-setting 400-yard freestyle, and 400-yard medley relays. Cahill is now the men’s and women’s Swimming and Diving coach at RIT.
