Kristine Gray will be remembered as one of the finest athletes in RIT history. She had a unique talent in that she excelled in softball and volleyball. In softball, she was strong as iron. She pitched an incredible 78 games over four seasons, compiling a remarkable 1.74 earned run average. She recorded 10 shutouts, including two no-hitters during the 1991 and 1992 seasons. As a hitter, Gray shattered the batting mark with a .446 career average. An applied art and computer graphics major at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, Gray set 25 pitching records, most of which still stand. She pitched 27 consecutive games, including 25 starts. During her career she recorded 47 victories and pitched an overwhelming 168 consecutive innings. Her career strikeout total was 199 over four campaigns. In the 1992 season she recorded a 0.92 earned run average. During her softball tenure, RIT compiled a 61-41 record, competing in four New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) playoffs. The team was runner-up in the Easter College Athletic Conference Championship in 1993. As a softball hitter, Gray scored 103 runs and managed 137 hits. She hit safely in 27 consecutive games, including 14 in one season. In 1994, she set the mark by scoring 37 runs. In volleyball, Gray was a three-time All-American and NYSWCAA All-Tournament three years. She was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Northeast Region team from 1990 to 1993. She was a three-time All-Empire Athletic Association selection. Her teams competed in four NCAA Division III championships with the best finish of third in 1993. The Tigers also won four conference crowns and two New York State titles. During her career, volleyball compiled a 175-26 four-year record. She held three volleyball marks, including most kills in a career (1,825), most digs in a career (1,817), and best dig average in a career (3.52). As a versatile athlete, Gray was Senior Athlete of the Year in 1994 and earned GTE Academic All-American honors two times. She was named to the Dean's List every quarter, maintaining a 3.55 grade point average in applied art and computer graphics. She also was a two-time WVOR Radio Sportswoman of the Year finalist.
