Kira Alling Fauvell joined the RIT swim team during its formative years. She quickly set about winning races and piling up points. For her first two years, she led the fledgling team in scoring with 389 points. She went on to tally 627.25 points, which now ranks her 12th on the all-time list. Initially only three places were scored. Today five places score points in dual meets. She was a versatile performer who swam freestyle, individual medley, butterfly, and was part of medley and freestyle relays. She was a three-time All-American on relay teams and also combined with teammates to win two state crowns. Kira was named Senior Athlete of the Year in 1984. The three-year captain set six records, most of which have since been broken.
Former coach Kathy Vangeli stated: “Kira was a dedicated, hard working swimmer. She was always willing to swim any event in order to help our team. Her leadership was a tremendous asset. She had an outstanding career and was one of the individuals who helped to build our program into one state and national prominence.”
