Ken Hale made quite an impression during his three years on campus. He was a key component to RIT’s only undefeated basketball season in 1955 and is one of 21 players to have scored 1000 career points. Is one of only seven players who have scored 500 points in a single season and he accomplished this feat in only 18 games.
Hale was an imposing presence on the floor, standing nearly 6’7”. His agility allowed him to run the floor on fast breaks and shoot effectively from the outside. He averaged 25.2 points per game in 1955 and 20.5 points per game in his career.
Hale finished his brilliant career at RIT with 1044 career points. When Hale finished his three year career at RIT he sat at the top of the list of most career points. He currently sits in 17th place on RIT’s all-time scoring list. Hale’s 20.5 career points per game average is 4th among all RIT players.
Stated former teammate Fred Moss: “Ken was the main reason for RIT’s success during the years he played. If he had returned his fourth year RIT could have remained undefeated. He did not score all of his points down low but could shoot effectively from the outside and was able to start the fast break. Ken was a complete basketball star. I have never played with anyone who had the talent of Kenny. I don’t know of any other player who influenced the success of RIT the way Ken did.”
