A native of West Palm Beach, Fla., John Pomeroy was an integral part of RIT men's swimming in several capacities. He swam for two seasons and was team manager his junior and senior years. He later served four years as assistant coach under John Buckholtz. In 1982-83, he served as interim head coach and guided the Tigers to the Empire Athletic Association Championship. The Tigers went on to finish 13th at the 1983 NCAA Division III Championships. That same year, four swimmers earned All-American honors, while three captured state crowns and five won league titles. Pomeroy, a computer science major, was a founding member of the RIT Athletic Association.
